Wind power companies ask for security to avoid another failure in the renewable auction
The wind sector has asked to speed up the processing of renewable facilities and to continue promoting the energy transition, despite the results of the last auction organized by the Government, in which less than 1.5% of the 3,300 megawatts (MW) available.
In a statement, the Wind Business Association (AEE) has warned this Wednesday of the need to take into account the current energy context when carrying out future auctions, since the maximum price of this has not managed to capture the current real cost of renewable energy. In this sense, believes it is necessary that the volume not granted is not lost in this auction and that in the future reflect the real price of energyincorporating mechanisms that reduce the risk for the participants.
“The higher prices of raw materials and the logistics of the sector’s value chain, as well as accumulated inflation, have driven the increase in the values of the bids made at the auction. As stated by some of the main manufacturers of wind turbines, the wind industry cannot be immune to the rise in the costs of raw materials and the logistics of transporting the components of this technology. Like any other productive sector, it cannot function in red numbers”, AEE has argued.
However, they ensure that the rate of processing of renewable projects represents an increasingly important factor in the decision-making of the participants in the auctions. Thus, it considers that if the processing is not accelerated, the objective of reaching 40 gigawatts (GW) of wind power in 2030 is considered “complicated”.
An almost deserted auction
The fourth auction of renewables under the new remuneration regime to which the sector reacts, it was practically deserted due to low price which was finally offered for the award of the power to be developed, according to what sources in the sector told Europa Press. The low reserve price finally set by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has cut off the majority of applicants who attended the bid, since, despite the fact that the interest was not the same as on previous occasions, Yes, there was competition, although at prices above the established one.
