Thunivu release could clash with Varisu movie as first-look poster shared


After the official confirmation of his title as Thunivu from AK 61, insiders warned that the release will clash with the upcoming film Varisu.

In the last 24 hours, #AK61 has been trending on social media platforms around the world; however, fans who are familiar with Ajith Kumar’s work will not be surprised by the publicity this film has generated.

Some time ago, the final title and first look poster of the film was shared online; and its production title ‘AK 61’ has been officially changed to the release title of ‘Thunivu’.

Here’s everything we know about Thunivu, including why the release clashed with 2023’s Varisu and, of course, the first look trailer.

What is the Thunivu, aka AK 61?

The movie Thunivu is directed by H Vinoth (Valimai, Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru), produced by Boney Kapoor (Wanted, Vaimai) and Zee Studios, starring Ajith Kumar in the lead role.

Filming for the film began earlier this year in Hyderabad and Chennai, before moving to Pune for the second schedule. According to The Times of India, the production team has planned for the next season of the film which will begin in Bangkok tomorrow.

“H Vinoth and his crew will travel to Bangkok in the first week of September to begin preparations for what promises to be a very intense schedule. This yet-to-be-titled blockbuster has a 21-date run in Bangkok, starting in mid-September. Ajith Kumar and the entire team will fly to Bangkok on September 15 for this marathon shooting leg. Some of the action scenes will be filmed by AK and the team in Bangkok. – Pinkvilla.

Thunivu’s offer will clash with Varusi’s, according to the report

However, no release window for Thunivu movie has been revealed by the production staff or distribution partners.

However, there are already concerns that its release date may clash with the much-anticipated film ‘Varisu’.

As reported by The Times of India, the production team is eyeing a holiday release for the upcoming movie Thunivu.

Unfortunately, with the 2022 Diwali and December 2022 schedules just around the corner, “the makers have no choice but to shift the film to January. [2023].”

“So, there may be ‘Ajith 61’ [AK 61 – now Thunivu] to release for 2023 Pongal and this will make Ajith face Vijay at the box office as the latter’s ‘Varisu’ is locked to release for the festival. Other public holidays around this period include Republic Day in late January, Rama Navami in late March and Ambedkar Jayanti in mid-April.
