Maroto gives the green light to a package of 15 million Perte for Stellantis Vigo

The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, announced this Friday that the Vigo factory of the automobile group Stellantis will receive 15 million euros of the Strategic Project for the Recovery and Economic Transformation of the Electric and Connected Vehicle (Perte VEC) for its ‘Aires’ initiative, for which it has demanded “involvement” from the Xunta de Galicia. This has been pointed out by Maroto in statements to thes media after presenting the Perte del Naval in Vigo, where he valued the work carried out by the Government to help the company “in the present and in the future”.

After announcing that the Executive will expand the aid granted by the Perte VEC to 880 million, Maroto has confirmed that one of the projects that is being evaluated for approval in the next few hours is the Stellantis ‘Aires’ initiative, which would involve the implementation of a battery workshop in Vigo, the reuse of industrial water or the reduction of energy consumption in its olive plant. As he has underlined, on the table is this project in which 15 million euros will be invested, most of them in the Vigo factory and others in the Madrid plant, and which will be approved “in the next few hours”.

Future investments

Likewise, the head of Industry has explained that in the working group created with representatives of the company, the central Executive and the three autonomous communities where Stellantis has a factory company needs are being assessed. Regarding the Vigo plant, he has indicated that there has been talk of the very high tension, of a review of the prices paid to the Free Zone and of what the administrations will be accompanying the investments that Stellantis intends to make in the future. to adapt its installations to the electric vehicle.

“Right now we have a commitment to the company. We are demonstrating it by financing this first ‘Aires’ project in Vigo, but last week we also had very good news, since the Stellantis project at the Figueruelas (Zaragoza) plant is a reality and the company itself announced a new electric model”, he added. Maroto has underlined that “if steps are taken in that direction” and trust, lines that can accommodate their investment projects and solving the problems that the company poses, “there will be a future for a company that is part of the identity of Vigo and from Spain because it is the main vehicle manufacturer”.

Here the minister has demanded “involvement” from the regional governments and specifically to the Xunta, claiming that the central Executive put its lines and proposals on the table because the working group “is not only going to listen” but to “propose”. “The new projects that we are working on with Stellantis require commitment, to go from words to deeds. I want to demand that the Xunta, when we sit down in the working group, propose what support it is going to give to this project “, has highlighted Maroto, who has not wanted to anticipate what investment this initiative will entail for reasons of confidentiality, but he has said that “it will guarantee the future of the factory for 10 years”. “We are going to stop reproaching ourselves, we are going to get to work. Spain, Galicia needs a useful policy”, he has sentenced.

Response from the Xunta

Precisely the first vice-president of the Xunta and councilor of Economy, Industry and Innovation, Francisco Conde, has insisted on asking the Government to promote “as soon as possible” this new PERTE for the automobile sector to respond to investment needs of Stellantis and other companies because the first call was “unsuccessful” and did not allow the companies to meet their objectives.

In statements to the media, he assured that the Ministry will have “all the collaboration” of the Xunta in the working group to allow European funds they do reach companies through the new PERTE.
